Minimum qualificiations:

Understanding and appreciation for Hawaiian language, culture, and history.

One year college level Hawaiian language instruction or equivalent.

About the Program:

In 2009, ʻŌiwi TV partnered with the ʻAha Pūnana Leo on their Administration for Native Americans Social & Economic Development Federal Grant that created the Native Hawaiian Broadcast Media Program. Through this partnership, we have created a model for training Native Hawaiians in the media broadcast industry that immerses trainees into all aspects of broadcast media including writing, producing, photography, audio, editing, distribution, and marketing.

The Trainees have worked on numerous broadcast quality productions that have aired on regional television networks including  ʻŌiwi TV & Hawaiʻi News Now (CBS, NBC affiliates)

ʻĀhaʻi ʻŌlelo Ola – The first Hawaiian language news program on network television

Ka Leo ʻŌiwi – Thirteen episode Hawaiian language learning show

Wai ʻAwaʻawa – Feature length documentary on a Hawaiian language high school football team

ʻŌiwi TV News Segments – 3-minute news segments on the people, events, and issues in the Hawaiian community

Indigenous Insight – An international indigenous television news magazine produced in partnership with the World Indigenous Television Broadcasters Network

“Without Hawaiian, Its Just Not The Same” – Television commercial campaign for the ʻAha Pūnana Leo (winner of a regional advertising gold medal)

Hawaiʻi’s Official Video Welcome to Incoming Visitors – A short video welcome message that greets all in-bound international visitors to Hawaiʻi

ʻAha Kāne – 3 day Native Hawaiian men’s conference

Te Mana o Te Moana – 2 day ceremonial event that welcomed 7 Pacific voyaging canoes to Hawaiʻi.

ʻAha Nuʻukia – 3 day Hawaiian language teaching conference

Herb Kawainui Kāne Tribute – Short format video documentary honoring the life of Hawaiʻi’s legendary artist and cultural revivalist Herb Kāne

Ahu Kupanaha Iā Hawaiʻi ʻImi Loa – Short format video documentary for the ʻAha Pūnana Leo highlighting the theme of sustainability

APEC 2011 Videos – A series of 3-minute videos geared to educate visiting political and business leaders on Hawaiʻi and our native culture.
